One of the questions I regularly get asked when people are looking for a new garage door is why there is such a range. Surely one garage door is the same as the next? However, this isn’t really the case. Garage doors prices vary according to many different factors and in this article I’ll be discussing these in order for you to get an idea of the right one for you. The last thing you want to do is buy the wrong door because this can waste a lot of time and money.

1. The material of the door
If you’ve tried to buy a garage door before you’ll know that the prices vary greatly depending on which type of material you buy. If you buy a hardwood such as teak or oak then you can expect to pay a lot more than if you were to buy a much cheaper model made out of something like steel.

2. The size of the garage door
It might sound obvious but the size of the garage door is a big factor. For example, if you wanted to buy a split garage door then you’d have to pay a bit extra because of the double doors required.

3. The manufacturer of the garage door
Garage doors prices are also affected by who makes the door as you’d probably imagine. If the person who makes the garage door is known to provide a high quality service then you’ll probably have to pay a bit extra for this. Whether that’ll be worth it is up to yoriceu.

Garage door prices are always changing so it’s hard to know which one is the best for you. In this article I’ll be discussing some of the places you can look when trying to find great deals on garage doors prices in order for you to save money and not have to worry about overspending.

The first place you should always start looking for any piece of home equipment is online. There are so many different options available on the internet that you’ll always be able to find what you need. This is especially true when trying to find a garage door because you’ll find that there are so many available.

For example, if you’re buying a wooden garage door then you need to think carefully about the price. Wooden garage doors generally are more expensive than their steel cousins so it’s always hard to know which is the right one. In most cases people would say that if you have the money you should go for a wooden door because they bring more class and style to a home but of course this depends on the house that you have and whether you want to pay the extra. In some cases you may decide that the extra price isn’t worth it.

Ultimately, finding the best garage door prices is a bit hit and miss. The internet gives you a good place to start and allows you to see which is the kind of prices you’ll be looking at but that doesn’t help too much if you haven’t first decided which door to get. For that reason planning the type of garage door you want to buy is important before you start looking.

Garage door safety has improved immensely over the past ten or twenty years, but there are still several deaths a year which occur mainly to children. The purpose of this article is not to alarm you but just to educate you on how far the industry has come, but also some things that every homeowner need to make sure he keeps an eye on. Also remember that in many cases you do get what you pay for, so although garage doors prices may seem high they are probably worth it.

In 1993, the Consumer Product Safety Commission mandated that all US homes have an electric eye or similarly functioning garage door safety mechanism. This is why (hopefully) if you try to duck under your garage door as it’s closing, it will pop back up even before it touches you. It senses movement and immediately takes action designed to maintain the safety of whatever that might be passing underneath it. While this can occasionally be annoying, it has doubtless saved hundreds of lives at the very least.

There are also some garage doors that are a little less safe, and they will only change their path if they actually make contact with something. This type of garage door should maybe be replaced. That’s a judgment call in my opinion. Each person has his or her own different level of caution that they feel is necessary.

Lastly, in the case of very old mechanical garage doors, they may have no safety mechanism whatsoever. That same Consumer Commission has publicly stated that if you have one these garage doors you should flat out replace it.

Another way of keeping up with the current state of your garage door safety is to regularly test it. Do a little diagnostic on the thing about every couple months. I’m not saying you have to do this, just musing about the ideal way to proactively prevent injuries. The people who should be most concerned with these issues are parents who still have some small kids running around. Make sure and tell them (as I’m sure you already have) that the garage is not a toy. Back in the 1980’s it was hugely popular for kids to think that they were Indiana Jones trying to roll under the garage door just before it closed. Maybe you remember how Indy barely escaped a closing stone wall but dropped his hat. So what did he do? He reached his hand back in there and grabbed his hat just in the nick of time, creating a generation of children who were prone to disobey standards of garage door safety. Good job, Indy.

If you ask me, few inventions of the 20th century are more absolutely perfect than good old garage door openers. I’m not kidding. Now it seems so commonplace, but it wasn’t really that long ago when if people wanted to drive into their garage, they had to get out and open it themselves. What a hassle! And they are definitely worth todays garage door prices, which can be quite high. Thanks to great innovations surrounding radio waves, now we don’t even have to do anything but push a button. (Yet still this is too complicated for so many of us!) Unfortunately, sometimes garage door openers stop working, or we have to install a new door system and we are left to program the darn things ourselves. I don’t know about but I have had some frustrating times trying to program these things in the past. Now I know everything there is to know about the little magical “genies” so I can give you a brief overview.

The two most trusted names in the world of garage door openers are Genie and Chamberlain, the latter is well-known for their Liftmaster technology. Chamberlain also has a stellar opener in their Whisper Drive which has earned rave reviews from the press.

The main thing I look for is a simple-to-use interface. There always comes a day when I have to program these things for whatever reason, and at that point I want the least possible buttons and switches to deal with. I want a simple instruction booklet that does not read like physics. And I want a color that is not obtrusive, such as the typical grey maybe with a white button.

Genie Pro is a great product, too. This thing hangs on top of your garage ceiling and pulls the door up and down. You should look for the rolling-code technology so that your garage door can’t be hacked into by thieves or robbers. This is sort of like an encrypted way to keep your house safe, and that is always the first name of the game.

Finally, I’ll just mention something that I bet you haven’t even thought to look for in garage door openers: a light! Don’t overlook the importance and practicality of having a good light that works in tandem with the opening and closing of your garage door. Think about it: how else are you supposed to get from inside your car into your house without an overhanging light? It’s not like you’ll be able to get to a light switch, and most people’s garages are dark. These are the main things to keep in mind when buying an opener for your garage.

The first point I would make to anyone who is involved in the process of choosing a garage door, or who will soon be, is that of primary importance maybe even above the fact of the physical aspects of the door is how it will look from the street.Garage door prices vary widely, so you need to choose wisely. A garage door is a surprisingly evident and major portion of the visible space of one’s home. There are many nice designs running the gamut from cheap to nice to exquisite (and costly). Basically, you have to determine exactly how important this visible part of the front of your house is going to be, given that it may take up a full quarter of passersby’s view. This is definitely something that can pay off as an investment into your home whenever it is eventually sold.

Definitely when choosing a garage door you need to involve your wife in this process, because of the stylistic implications explained above. I also suggest measuring the space that it will go into, which may involve measuring your old garage door and the general nooks and crannies that could come into play in buying the new door. This is the main piece of information you’ll have to know if you are going to speak to a professional about what your options are. Take note, too, of the tracks and their placement and what is the makeup of your old garage door that you’re replacing. If this has held up well but it’s just time for a change, you may want to stick to something of a similar material when choosing a garage door today. Take note of the depth of your current space.

You will have to think about some other aspects too, like whether you want flush panels, long raised panels, or their shorter counterpart. Flush garage panels will sort of blend into the walls that are next to them. This is the incognito style. Raised panels will call more eyes to your new garage door by creating more depth of perception. They give substance in fleshing the design of the thing out. This is often the route that more stylistic people will take, and you are bound to pay a small premium for this little treat. In choosing a garage door I want you to consider all these questions and more such as: does a steel door sound like something your family would enjoy? Or are you more of an old-fashioned person and would you like wooden doors that make your garage look like a barn?

I don’t want you to get overwhelmed with these questions. There’s only a few of them and they will go a long way to inform your decision and make it one that is both economical and good-looking.

If you are looking to install a new garage door then you will need to know a bit about the different types of garage doors that are out there on the market today. It’s not a terribly complex topic, and it’s one we can deal with in the brief span of this short piece right here. I will be your guide as I teach you what I know from all my experience in the garage and home industry – I knew it would come in handy one day!

First of all you’ve got your canopy-type garage door. I’m sure we’ve all seen this one at work. It folds up into the ceiling of your garage. It stays straight and is one of the cheaper types of garage doors that exists. Some of it will be left hanging out above the end of your driveway, so this may not be the most cosmetic thing ever devised by engineers and construction workers. But hey, that’s why it won’t cost you an arm and a leg. It folds up making a creaking noise, going up on the wheels embedded in the track it runs on. That is the normal type anyway of canopy doors.

Now, the reverse of this is when you have a sectional garage door. This one (yeah, you guessed it) folds up into the ceiling in sections. It’s a bit of a cleaner type of technology. It’ll go all the way on up in there, completely non-intrusive. It can do this because of its inherent foldability. If you want to install these types of garage doors then you can have a go at it. Take some instructions; it has been know to not be too hard supposedly. Garage doors prices vary depending on the type you buy so it’s important to know which one to get.

A retractable type will straight up leave you the most room to park you car right up next to it in the driveway which is always a benefit or a pitfall depending on which type of door we are dealing with. If one has a large amount of area in which to operate then I’d suggest this type, at least it has certain benefits when operating in such an environment.

The bottom line is that once you are educated about the different types of garage doors it becomes easier to match one of them to the house’s specific needs, as presented by its dimensions and the pattern of behavior of the occupants of said house.

Over time, everything wears down; your garage door is no exception. Maybe you’ve been ignoring it for the past year or two, living with an ever-more faulty entrance to your garage is not a very advisable way to live. Plus, you probably have to fight with the thing every time you pull your car in and out of it. Why won’t you replace it? I think I know why: you’re afraid of how high garage doors prices might be nowadays. This article will let you know what to look out for when browsing for a purchase. (It may not be as bad as you think.)

The first thing you need to find out, after you know a price, is what is included in that price? The last thing you want is to go to pay for your new garage door and then all of a sudden you’re getting a bunch of extra charges tacked onto your bill. So make sure that you take into account all the hardware that you’ll need, the vinyl stops for your door, the springs, and the tracks that are necessary to fit the thing. If you don’t know then don’t hesitate to ask the salesman: “Is this absolutely everything I’m going to need?”

If you wanted to buy a garage door like this then you'd need a large budget

Obviously, like every other product on the shelf, garage doors prices vary very widely. If you want a door that you’re probably going to have to replace in two years, well I’m sure you can find that and for a deal, to boot! (Not that I would suggest that method.) There is also an ever-expanding high-end in this industry. If you’re looking at that, then you’re probably not too concerned about what you’re going to pay. Just to throw a number out there, the average homeowner might expect to pay something on the order of $1,000 to replace their garage door. Now that number is very ballpark, but I know that some of you out there want to grasp onto something, so there it is.

Finally, shop around. The construction and garage businesses are fairly volatile, and so can their prices be. You might go down to your local Home Depot or Lowe’s and see what kind of inventory they can hook you up with, or you might talk to the guy who installed your door in the first place (if you were even in the home at that time). Check the maker of your current subpar offering and give that company a call. Of course, all this will take a lot of hunting which is not always appealing. But it doesn’t cost anything but time. Lastly, don’t just automatically think that everyone is trying to rip you off because that’s just not true. I know tons of good people in the business who won’t charge you exorbitant garage door prices.
